Israfil (arabisch ‏إسرافيل‎, DMG Isrāfīl), zu Deutsch Der Brennende, ist der Name eines Engels im Engelglauben des Islam.

Vorstellung

Der schon im vorislamischen Arabien existierende Glaube an Engel wurde in die Glaubesvorstellung des Islam integriert und Existenz von Engeln wird im Islam als wichtig eingestuft (Sure 4,136). Israfil ist einer der vier Erzengel. Namentlich ist Israfil nicht im Qur'an aufgeführt. Eine Textstelle (Sure 39.68) wird traditionell jedoch mit ihm als Todesengel in Verbindung gebracht. Am Tag des Jüngsten Gerichts wird ein Engel zweimal in sein Horn blasen; dann wird kein Leben mehr auf der Erde sein und die Toten werden auferstehen um vor Allah Rechenschaft abzulegen.

Israfil soll dem bei anderen Religionen zu findenden Engel Raphael entsprechen.
