Der Nahr ez-Zarqa (arabisch ‏نهر الزرقاء‎, DMG Nahru z-Zarqāʾ, „blauer Fluss“; deutsch auch Jabbok) ist ein Fluss in Jordanien. Er entspringt in der Nähe von Amman und fließt zunächst in nördlicher Richtung, ehe er nach Westen abknickt, von der König-Talal-Talsperre[1] (32° 11′ 30″ N, 35° 48′ 6″ O32.19158333333335.8015555555567) gestaut wird und schließlich in den Jordan mündet (32° 6′ 55″ N, 35° 32′ 35″ O32.1152535.5430555555567Koordinaten: 32° 6′ 55″ N, 35° 32′ 35″ O).

Der Nahr ez-Zarqa wird unter dem Namen Jabbok mehrfach im Alten Testament erwähnt. Er floss durch den in der Bibel erwähnten Staat Gilead und trennte die Gebiete der Stämme Ruben und Gad vom südlich gelegenen Reich der Ammoniter. Das Land Sihon hat sich „vom Arnon zum Jabbok“ erstreckt und wurde später vom König von Ammon beansprucht (Num 21,24 EU; Dtn 2,37 EU; 3,16 EU; Jos 12,2 EU; Ri 11,13 EU.22EU).

Besondere Bedeutung gewann der Jabbok aber dadurch, dass sich an seinen Ufer nach Gen 32,23–33 EU der Kampf Jakobs mit dem Engel zugetragen haben soll.
