James Thornhill

James Thornhill

Sir James Thornhill (* 25. Juli 1675 in Melcombe Regis, Dorset; † 13. Mai 1734 bei Weymouth) war ein englischer Maler.

Er lernte bei Thomas Highmore und war dann besonders auf dem Gebiet der dekorativen Malerei unter dem Einfluss der französischen Schule tätig. Er schmückte unter anderem die Kuppel der Saint Paul's Cathedral, die große Halle des Blenheim Palace, die Kapelle zu Wimpole, die große Halle des Royal Naval College, ferner Hampton Court Palace und Easton Neston mit Gemälden und malte auch Porträts und Landschaften.
