Absenzen

Trotz den Olympischen Spielen Beijing 2008 gab es doch ein paar recht prominente Abwesende oder Ausfälle. Unter ihnen waren Lin Dan (BWF 1) aus China und Boonsak Ponsana aus Thailand (BWF 11). Peter Gade aus Dänemark verteidigte seinen Titel von 2007 nicht damit er für seine kranke Familie sorgen konnte. Xie Xingfang, chinesische Weltnummer Eins musste das Turnier beenden, nach dem sie sich bei einem Sturz im Hotel verletzt hatte.
