Djellaba.

Die Djellaba ist ein traditionelles lang wallendes Gewand (Tunika), meist hellfarbig (weit, bequem, vor Wärme schützend) vieler Wüstenvölker. Zum Kleid wird ein einfaches Leinenhemd und eine Hose getragen.

Lawrence von Arabien trug die Djellaba bei seinen Unternehmungen auf dem Kamel reitend während des Araberaufstandes gegen das Osmanenreich im Ersten Weltkrieg.

Heute wird die Djellaba in Erinnerung an die Nomadenzeit getragen, da sie Armut und Einfachheit sowie die Erfahrung der Entbehrungen in der Wüste widerspiegelt. Muslimische Männer tragen sie gegenwärtig häufig zur Demonstration ihres Glaubens.

Es ist gefertigt aus einem besonderen in den Gebirgsdörfern handgesponnenen Gabardinematerial.

Als Frauenkleidung wird die Djellaba häufig phantasievoll mit Gold und im Silber bestickt und verziert.
