Johann Crotus Rubianus

Crotus Rubeanus (auch Rubianus), eigentlich Johannes Jäger (* um 1480 in Thüringen; † nach 1539) war ein deutscher Humanist.

Rubeanus war in Erfurt Studienfreund von Martin Luther und Ulrich von Hutten. Er wurde 1510 Leiter der Klosterschule in Fulda und verbrachte die Jahre 1517 bis 1520 in Italien. Nach seiner Rückkehr schloss er sich anfänglich Luthers Reformation an, doch die großen Volksaufläufe und die Kurzsichtigkeit einiger Prediger ließen ihn zur katholischen Kirche zurückkehren, obwohl er auch damit nicht zufrieden war. 1531 wurde er scharf von Luthers Anhängern kritisiert, als er ein Kanonikat in Halle annahm. Rubeanus wird als Verfasser des ersten Teiles der Satire Dunkelmännerbriefe angesehen.
