John Gerard Braine

John Braine (John Gerard Braine; * 13. April 1922 in Bradford; † 28. Oktober 1986) war ein britischer Autor. Er verließ die St. Bede's Grammar School mit 16 und arbeitete in einem Geschäft, einem Labor und einer Fabrik bevor er nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg Bibliothekar wurde. Obwohl er zwölf belletristische Werke veröffentlichte, ist er heute vor allem für seinen ersten Roman Der Weg nach oben (Room at the Top) von 1957 bekannt, der 1959 von Jack Clayton verfilmt wurde. Braine wird gewöhnlich mit der Angry Young Men Bewegung in Verbindung gebracht.
