Julius Schulhoff (* 22. August 1825 in Prag; † 13. März 1898 in Berlin) war ein österreichischer Pianist und Komponist.

Leben

Schulhoff war in Prag Schüler von Václav Jan Křtitel Tomášek. Nach ersten Auftritten in Dresden lebte er seit Mitte der 1840er Jahre in Paris und war zunächst vornehmlich als ein anerkannter Klaviervirtuose aktiv. Erfolgreiche Konzertreisen nach Spanien, England und Russland folgten. Nach wenigen Jahren gab er seine Solistenkarriere jedoch auf und wandte sich ganz dem Unterricht und der Komposition zu, zunächst in Paris, ab 1870 in Dresden und später in Berlin, wo er ein Jahr vor seinem Ableben zum Professor ernannt wurde. Er war Großonkel des Komponisten Erwin Schulhoff.

Von Schulhoff sind etliche Kompositionen für das Klavier überliefert, die zum Teil zur Salonmusik gerechnet werden, deren musikalische Qualität aber anerkannt ist. Seine letzte Ruhestätte befindet sich nach Umbettung auf dem Südwestkirchhof Stahnsdorf.
