Antineutron

Das Antineutron ist im Standardmodell das Antiteilchen des Neutrons. Nach dem Quarkmodell besteht es aus zwei Anti-Down-Quarks und einem Anti-Up-Quark.

Das Antineutron wurde 1956, also ein Jahr nach der Entdeckung des Antiprotons, von B. Cork et al. entdeckt. Es hat wie das Neutron eine Ruhemasse von ca. 939,6 MeV, ist elektrisch ungeladen mit einem Spin von ½ und ist damit ein Fermion. Die Massen von Neutron und Antineutron sind gleich mit einer Unsicherheit kleiner als (9±5)×10-5. Die Theorie der CPT-Symmetrie liefert bestimmte Bedingungen für Teilchen/Antiteilchen, die zum Beispiel mit Hilfe des Antineutrons experimentell getestet werden können. Das Antineutron ist wegen seiner elektromagnetisch wechselwirkungslosen Annihilationsreaktionen (nantin) → Prod. und (nantip) → Prod. interessant. Umgekehrt können Antineutronen zum Beispiel bei der Annihilation von beschleunigten hochenergetischen Elektronen und Positronen erzeugt werden e+e- → nantin.

Obwohl das Antineutron dieselbe Ladung und denselben Spin hat wie das Neutron, ist es ein anderes Teilchen, da es aus Antiquarks zusammengesetzt ist. Das freie Antineutron zerfällt zu einem Antiproton und einem Positron, während das freie Neutron zu einem Proton und einem Elektron zerfällt. Die Lebensdauer und das gyromagnetische Moment des freien Antineutrons wurden bislang noch nicht experimentell bestimmt.

Die experimentelle Beobachtung der Neutron-Antineutron-Oszillationen wird als weiterer Test der Quarktheorie angesehen. Im Vakuum fluktuiert das freie Neutron zum Antineutron mit einer Zeitkonstanten von größer 4,7×1031 Jahren.
