Die größeren Staaten von Madhya Bharat

Madhya Bharat („Zentralindien“) war eine Union von Fürstenstaaten in Zentralindien. Sie entstand 1948 durch den Zusammenschluss von 25 Fürsten, die der Central India Agency in Britisch-Indien unterstanden hatten und die sich nun Indien anschlossen. Die größten dieser Staaten waren Gwalior, Indore, Dhar, Dewas, Jaora, Ratlam, Barwani, Sitamau, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Rajgarh, Narsinghgarh und Sailana. Gwalior wurde Winterhauptstadt, Indore Sommerhauptstadt, der Maharaja von Gwalior Rajpramukh (Staatsoberhaupt).

1951 hatte Madhya Bharat eine Fläche von 120.378 km² und 7,9 Mio. Einwohner. Am 1. November 1956 wurden alle Fürstenstaaten aufgelöst und dem Bundesstaat Madhya Pradesh einverleibt.
