Der Name Metro-land beschreibt ein Gebiet nordwestlich von London in den Grafschaften Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire und Middlesex, das von der Metropolitan Railway erschlossen wurde, der heutigen Metropolitan Line der London Underground.

Metro-land ist ursprünglich ein Markenname, der von James Garland, einem Mitarbeiter der Werbeabteilung der Metropolitan Railway erfunden wurde, um so für deren Angebot zu werben. Auch sollte damit Bautätigkeit in diesem Gebiet angekurbelt werden, um weitere potentielle Fahrgäste zu gewinnen. Ab 1915 wurde der Name auf Werbeplakaten und in Broschüren verwendet.

Von 1915 bis 1932 gab die Firma auch ein jährlich erscheinendes Magazin mit dem Namen Metroland heraus. Hierin enthalten waren Freizeittips, die insbesondere den Wochenendverkehr ankurbeln sollten, aber auch Anzeigen für Immobilien entlang der Strecke.

Die Schreibweise "Metroland" ist mittlerweile üblich, der "Markenname" war jedoch Metro-land oder METRO-LAND.
