3. Unterseebootsflottille

Die 3. Unterseebootsflottille wurde am 4. Oktober 1937 gegründet. Sie war in Kiel stationiert und trug den Namen Unterseebootsflottille "Lohs". Den Namen trug die Flottille zu Ehren von Oberleutnant zur See Johannes Lohs, einem U-Boot-Kommandanten des ersten Weltkriegs. Der Name wurde bis zur Auflösung der Flottille im Dezember 1939 beibehalten.

Erst im März 1941 wurde die 3. Unterseebootsflottille wiedergegründet und erhielt ihren Status als Frontflottille. Bis September 1941 blieb die Flottille in Kiel stationiert. Danach wurde die Flottille in den neu errichteten U-Boot-Bunker in La Pallice / La Rochelle in Frankreich verlegt, wo sie von Oktober 1941 bis Oktober 1944 blieb.
