Nimmersatte (Mycteria) bilden eine Gattung innerhalb der Familie der Störche (Ciconiidae). Die 90–100 cm großen Vögel haben eine Flügelspannweite von 150 cm. Das hauptsächlich weiße Gefieder weist schwarze Schwungfedern auf. Während die drei Arten der alten Welt einen gelben Schnabel und ein gelbes oder rotes federnloses Gesicht haben, sind diese Teile beim amerikanischen Waldstorch weniger farbenprächtig. Nimmersatte fliegen mit ausgestrecktem Hals und gestreckten Beine. Die vier Arten leben in den Tropen Amerikas, Afrikas und Asiens. Diese Standvögel brüten in tief gelegenen Feuchtgebieten auf Bäumen. Bei der Suche nach Insekten, Fischen und Fröschen schreiten sie langsam und stetig durch flache Feuchtgebiete.
