Nahāvand ist eine Stadt in der Provinz Hamadan im Iran. Sie befindet sich südlich von Hamadan, östlich von Malayer und südwestlich von Borudscherd. Nahāvand ist eine der ältesten existierenden Städte des Iran.

Name
Der Name wurde in Büchern und Quellen verschiedentlich geschrieben: Nahavand (persisch نهاوند; Nahāvand); auch als Nahavend, Nahawand, Nehavand, Nihavand oder Nehavend transliteriert; ehemals: Mah-Nahavand.
Der antike Name war Laodicea (altgr. Λαοδικεια; Arabisch Ladhiqiyya), auch Laodiceia und Laodikeia, Laodikeia in Media oder Laodikeia in Persis genannt.
Weitere Namen waren Antiochia in der Persis, Antiochia von Chosrau' (altgr. Αντιόχεια του Χοσρόη), Antiochia in Media (altgr. Αντιόχεια της Μηδίας), Nemavand und Niphaunda.
Geschichte
Nahāvand wurde zusammen mit den achämenischen Städten Apameia und Xerxes durch Dareios I. in Medien gegründet. [1] Plinius dem Älteren zufolge bildete die Stadt die äußerste Grenze Mediens und wurde durch Xerxes I. wiedergegründet (Band VI. der Naturalis Historia).
642 war die Stadt Schauplatz der Schlacht bei Nehawend, die den Abschluss des Niedergangs des Sassanidenreichs und der Islamischen Eroberung des Iran markierte.
Zu den namhaften Bewohnern von Nahāvand gehören Benjamin Nahawandi, eine Schlüsselfigur in der Entwicklung des karäischen Judentums im frühen Mittelalter, und Ahmad Nahavandi, Astronom an der Akademie von Gundishapur aus dem 8. Jahrhundert.
Im Jahr 2005 hatte Nahāvand eine Bevölkerung von 77.206 Einwohnern. [2] Nahāvand gab seinen Namen einem Melodietyp (Maqam (Musik)|) in der arabischen, iranischen und türkischen Musik.
