B. Flaccilla, Kaiserin, war eine Tochter des Präfecten Antonius von Gallien, und nachmaligen Consuls. Sie war in Spanien geboren und an Theodosius verheirathet, bevor er Kaiser geworden war. Nachdem er den kaiserlichen Thron von Konstantinopel bestiegen, nahm Flaccilla den Titel einer Augusta an, und in dieser hervorragenden Stellung trug sie durch ihren Eifer viel zur Vernichtung des Götzendienstes bei. Sie besaß alle Tugenden, welche die christliche Religion gewährt: sie war wohlthätig mit einer gewissen klugen Wahl, in ihrem ganzen Benehmen einfach, von musterhafter Frömmigkeit; sie bot dem Hofe das trefflichste Beispiel und war seine schönste Zierde. Sie bewog den Theodosius zur Milde gegen die Schuldigen und zur Unterstützung der Unglücklichen. Dieselbe starb im J. 388 in einem Dorfe in Thracien, wohin sie sich begeben hatte, um zur Herstellung ihrer zerrütteten Gesundheit die Bäder zu gebrauchen. Der hl. Gregorius von Nyssa hielt ihre Leichenrede, und die Griechen verehren sie als eine Selige. (Mg.)
