42Alphonsus Rodriguez, S. J. zu Valladolid in Spanien im Jahre 1526 geboren, war einer der ersten Gefährten des hl. Ignatius, lange Zeit Professor der Theologie in seinem Orden und in der Folge Rector des Collegs zu Monte-Rey in der spanischen Landschaft Galicien. Er starb im Rufe der Heiligkeit zu Sevilla am 21. Febr. 1616, in einem Alter von 90 Jahren. Wir haben von diesem frommen Jesuiten ein sehr tiefes ascetisches Werk, welches eine große Kenntniß des menschlichen Herzens von Seite seines Autors bekundet, nämlich das Werk: »Anleitung zur christlichen Vollkommenheit«, welches wegen seiner Vortrefflichkeit in mehrere Sprachen übersetzt ist.
