Peorĭa, Hauptstadt der gleichnamigen Grafschaft des nordamerikan. Staates Illinois, am Illinois, über den hier mehrere Brücken führen und der sich oberhalb zum Peoria Lake verbreitert, wichtiger Eisenbahnknotenpunkt, mit Rathaus, Gerichtsgebäude, Post, Opernhaus, Polytechnikum, Bibliothek und (1900) 56,100 Einw., darunter 4745 in Deutschland Geborne. Die Industrie, 1900 mit 871 Betrieben, 8022 Arbeitern und 48,871,596 Doll. Produktionswert, ist sehr bedeutend in Whiskybrennerei (für 27,792,354 Doll.), Ackergeräte- und Maschinenbau, Seilerei.
