Lahovary

Lahovary, Alexander, rumän. Staatsmann, geb. 1841, gest. 16. März 1896 in Paris, kehrte, in Frankreich gebildet, 1865 nach Bukarest zurück und ward nach dem Sturz des Fürsten Cusa und der von ihm mit vorbereiteten Wahl des Fürsten Karl von Hohenzollern 1867 in das Ministerium des Auswärtigen berufen. 1869 in die Deputiertenkammer gewählt, schloß er sich der Junea dreapta (Jungen Rechten) an. 1870 war er für kurze Zeit und 1871–76 unter Catargiu Justizminister und führte eine Reform des Strafgesetzes und des Strafrechtsverfahrens durch. Nach dem Sturz Bratianus war L. seit 1888 mehrere Male unter Catargiu und Carp Minister des Auswärtigen und trat für den Anschluß an den Dreibund ein, den er in der Opposition bekämpft hatte.
