Landsborough

Landsborough (spr. ländsbörro), William, Australienreisender, geb. in Stevenston (Airshire), gest. im Mai 1886 in Brisbane, kam früh nach Australien, wo er sich in Queensland mit Weidewirtschaft beschäftigte und nebenbei Forschungsreisen ausführte, auf denen er (1860) die Quellen des Thomsonflusses entdeckte. 1861 mit einer Expedition zur Aufsuchung der verschollenen Reisenden Burke und Wills betraut, durchkreuzte er den Kontinent vom Golf von Carpentaria bis Melbourne. Auch später, 1864–65 und 1867–68, machte er erfolgreiche Forschungsreisen in Queensland. Vgl. »Journal of Landsborough's expedition from Carpentaria« (Melbourne 1862).
