Minton

Minton, Thomas, Steingutwarenfabrikant, geb. 1765, gest. 1836, war ursprünglich Graveur und gründete 1791 in Stoke upon Trent eine Tonwarenfabrik hauptsächlich zur Nachahmung fremder Erzeugnisse (Luca della Robbia, Palissy, Majoliken) bei höchster technischer Vollendung und zur Anfertigung von matten und glasierten Fliesen. Seit 1837 wurde diese sich immer weiter, zuletzt auch auf Porzellan ausdehnende Fabrik von Herbert M. (gest. 1861) geleitet. Sie lieferte Arbeiten in Parian, Pâte sur Pâte (vgl. Tafel »Keramik I«, Fig. 2), seines Tafelgeschirr etc. und ahmte alle Farben des altchinesischen Porzellans und von Sèvres nach.
