EVADNE, es, (⇒ Tab. XIX.) des Philax, Hygin. Fab. 243. & 256. oder vielmehr Iphis Tochter. Apollod. lib. III. c. 7. §. 2. Sie hieß anfänglich Janira, bekam aber hernach διὰ τὸ πλῆθος τῶν ἔδνων, oder der Menge der Brautgeschenke, die sie erhielt, den Namen Evadne. Schol. Pindar. ap. Muncker. ad Hyg. Fab. 143. Ihr Gemahl war Kapaneus, den sie so sehr liebete, daß sie sich auch, da solcher vor Theben umkam, und darauf verbrannt wurde, zu ihm ins Feuer stürzete, damit ihre Asche mit seiner vermischet würde. Eurip. in Supplic. 934. & 990. sq. Apollod. l. c. & Serv. ad Virg. Aen. VI. 447. Von dieser Handlung war bey den Alten ein Gemälde angegeben, wo sie sich in ihren schönsten Kleidern und mit Kränzen wie ein Opferthier geschmücket, zeigete, und ihren Gemahl zu rufen schien, indem sie auf den Scheiterhaufen sprang, welchen einige Liebesgötter anzündeten.
