Beatification

Beatification (v. lat.), 1) Seligsprechung einer verstorbenen Person durch den Papst. Wenn nämlich ein Individuum seiner Tugend wegen von einigen Bischöfen für heilig erkannt wird, so erhält es, doch erst 50 Jahre nach seinem Tode, von dem Papste den Titel: Beatus od. Beata, Seliger od. Selige, u. gilt nun als einer der Nächsten nach den Heiligen (s. Kanonisation). Die Körper der Seliggesprochenen od. Theile derselben werden öffentlich zur Verehrung ausgestellt, die Bildnisse derselben aber erhalten eine Strahlenkrone. Daher Beatificiren, selig sprechen; 2) die Erscheinung einer Strahlenkrone um den Kopf eines auf einem Pechkasten stehenden stark elektrischen Menschen, s. Elektricität.
