Empyreuma

Empyreuma (gr.), 1) das Anbrennen; 2) der brandige Geschmack beim Kochen angebrannter Speisen u. Getränke; 3) die bei der trockenen Destillation organischer Substanzen entstehenden, meist mit einem eigenthümlichen (empyreumatischen, brenzlichen) Geruch behafteten Producte; daher Empyreumatisch, brenzlich; Empyreumatische Öle, die dabei sich bildenden stark riechenden Ole: Empyreumatische Mittel, Empyreuma enthaltende Mittel, z.B. Creosot, Glanzruß, Steinöl.
