Option

Option (v. lat.), 1) Willkür, freie Wahl, Befugniß zu wählen, daher Optionsrecht (Optionis jus), Wahl-, Kührrecht; 2) der Erwerb einer vacant gewordenen Kirchenpfründe durch die Wahl des Erwerbenden. Das Optionsrecht bestimmte sich nach dem Alter der Canoniker, u. der zur Wahl Berechtigte mußte binnen der Optionsfrist, d.i. einer Zeit von 20 Tagen, sich erklären, ob er die vacante Stelle statt seiner bisherigen einnehmen wollte. Im Falle der O. hatte der Opiirende oft an die Erben des Vorgängers eine gewisse Summe als Optionsgelder zu zahlen.
