Sewellel (Haplodon Wagl.), Nagethiergattung aus der Familie der Wühlmäuse, mit kurzem, dickem Leibe, flachem, breitem Kopfe, etwas gebogener Nase, kleinen Augen, kurzen, abgerundeten Ohren, keinen Backentaschen, starken, nicht gefurchten Schneide- u. Backenzähnen, kurzen starken Beinen mit nackten Sohlen u. fünf Zehen, mit langen wenig gekrümmten Krallen; Schwanz unter dem Pelze versteckt; Art: Gemeiner S. (H. leporinus Richards.), im westlichen Nordamerika.
