Strange

Strange (spr. Strehndsch), Robert, geb. 1723 auf der Orkadeninsel Mainland, lernte in Edinburg die Kupferstecherkunst, reiste 1759 nach Italien, lebte mehre Jahre in Paris u. zuletzt in London, wo er 1792 starb. In der Klarheit u. Bestimmtheit seines Grabstichels ist er von Wenigen übertroffen; er lieferte zahlreiche Blätter nach italienischen Meistern, fast alle im kühnsten u. besten Styl.
