Mahaska, Grafschaft im Staate Jowa, 26 QM., vom Des Moines River u. den North u. South Forts des Skunk River durchflossen; große Prairien u. Waldungen; Produkte: Mais, Weizen, Steinkohlen; die Davenport-Oskaloosa Eisenbahn durchschneidet die Grafschaft; Grund u. Boden der Grafschaft wurde erst 1843 van den Indianern an die weiße Bevölkerung abgetreten, darauf 1844 die Grafschaft organisirt; 1850: 5989 Ew., Hauptstadt: Oskaloosa.
