One Drop

Der One Drop ist ein markanter Schlagzeugstil des Reggae.

Der One Drop wurde populär durch Carlton Barrett, den langjährigen Schlagzeuger von Bob Marley & The Wailers und The Upsetters. In diesem Schlagzeugstil wird der Backbeat – die Betonung des zweiten und vierten Schlags des 4/4-Takts – durch den dominanten Schlag der Snaredrum (meistens als rim click/side stick) und der Bass Drum unterbrochen und charakterisiert. Beide Trommeln klingen dabei auf dem dritten Schlag jedes 4/4-Taktes, während jeweils der erste Schlag freigelassen wird. In der Grundform wird dabei die Hi Hat auf dem Backbeat (nicht zu verwechseln mit dem Offbeat), also dem zweiten und vierten Schlag des Takts gespielt.

Bei Variationen werden einzelne 8el auf der Hi Hat im Shuffle-Rhythmus (triolisch, wobei die zweite Note ausgelassen wird), hinzugefügt. Auf der Snare können auf dem ersten Schlag zwei 8el im Shuffle-Rhythmus gespielt werden.

Insgesamt ist der One Drop grundsätzlich ein Shuffle-Rhythmus.
