Dilbert ist die Titelfigur des gleichnamigen Comicstrips von Scott Adams, der auch das Dilbert-Prinzip formuliert hat. Dilbert ist ein angestellter Programmierer, Software-Entwickler und Ingenieur mittleren Alters, der in einem Großraumbüro mit den berüchtigten Cubicles arbeitet; dabei ist er unfreiwillig Single.

Geschichte
1989 entwickelte Adams die Figur Dilbert und 1993 erschien Dilbert erstmals in einer US-amerikanischen Lokalzeitung. Die Comic-Strips werden von United Feature Syndicate vertrieben und erscheinen in etwa 2.000 Tageszeitungen weltweit.
Dilbert war 1995 der erste von einem Syndikat herausgebrachte Internet-Comic. Ein E-Mail-Newsletter sowie ein kostenloses Plugin für Mozilla Firefox für den täglichen Dilbert-Comicstrip sind verfügbar. Die deutschsprachigen Syndikationrechte liegen bei Kipkakomiks mit Sitz in München.
2001 beauftrage Scott Adams die Designfirma IDEO, das perfekte Cubicle für Dilbert zu entwickeln.[1][2]
Seit April 2008 ist die Seite Flash-basiert. Nach heftigen Protesten seitens der Leserschaft[3] wurde eine zusätzliche Flash-freie Version eingerichtet.[4][5]

Fernsehserie
Adams produzierte in Zusammenarbeit mit Larry Charles eine Dilbert Fernseh-Zeichentrickserie. Die Serie umfasst 30 Folgen, die in zwei Staffeln ausgestrahlt wurden (US-Erstausstrahlung 1999 bis 2000). Sie ist in den USA auf DVD erhältlich und wurde in Deutschland beim Pay-TV-Sender Premiere und dem Kabelsender Tele 5 ausgestrahlt.
