Paisley (schott.-gäl. Pàislig) ist eine Stadt in den schottischen Lowlands. Sie liegt etwa 13 Kilometer westlich von Glasgow. Paisley ist Verwaltungssitz der Unitary Authority Renfrewshire. In der Stadt leben 74.170 Einwohner (Stand: 2001). Damit ist Paisley die fünftgrößte Stadt Schottlands.

Paisley ist Universitätsstadt. Die University of the West of Scotland ging 1992 aus dem Paisley College hervor und trug bis 2007 den Namen University of Paisley. Seit August 2007 sind die Universität Paisley und das Bell College vereinigt und seit Dezember 2007 unter dem neuen Namen University of the West of Scotland geführt. An der gesamten Universität studieren somit mittlerweile über 18.000 Studenten.

Bekannt geworden ist die Stadt nicht zuletzt durch das nach ihr benannte Paisleymuster für Textilien.

Außerdem ist Paisley Sitz des römisch-katholischen Bistums Paisley.

Paisley hat eine Städtepartnerschaft mit Fürth in Bayern.

Zwischen 1793 und 1918 war Paisley Standort der Whiskybrennerei Saucel, die zu den größten ihrer Art in Schottland gehörte.[1]
