Philip Bleiberg

Philip Blaiberg (* 24. Mai 1909 in Südafrika; † 17. August 1969 in Kapstadt)[1], Zahnarzt, war der zweite Mensch, an dem - am 2. Januar 1968 - eine Herztransplantation durch Dr. Christiaan Barnard am Grote-Schuur-Krankenhaus in Kapstadt, Südafrika, durchgeführt wurde. Der Spender war der 24jährige farbige Südafrikaner Clive Haupt. Blaiberg überlebte die Herzverpflanzung 18 Monate.

Die weltweit erste Operation am Menschen wurde am 3. Dezember 1967 ebenfalls von Barnard an dem Patienten Louis Washkansky durchgeführt.

Weiter hatte Adrian Kantrowitz in New York kurz nach Barnards erster Operation ein Kinderherz transplantiert; das Kind überlebte allerdings nur wenige Stunden.[2]).
