Neath Port Talbot (walisisch: Castell-nedd Port Talbot) ist ein County Borough, sog. Unitary Authority in Südwales. Die administrativen Zentren sind die Städte Neath und Port Talbot.

Neath (walisisch: Castell-nedd) (46.000 Einwohner) liegt am gleichnamigen Fluss (walisisch: Afon Nedd). Die nahe gelegene Ortschaft Plas Cilybebyll wurde als erste in Wales elektrifiziert.

Port Talbot (ca. 36.000 Einwohner) ist in erster Linie geprägt durch die angesiedelte Stahlindustrie, den Kohlebergbau und seinen großen Seehafen. In den vergangenen Jahren erlebte die Stadt ernsthafte wirtschaftliche Schwierigkeiten durch massiven Stellenabbau, v.a. in den großen Stahlwerken. Es bestehen Städtepartnerschaften zu Heilbronn und Esslingen am Neckar, sowie ein Freundschaftsvertrag mit Brackenheim.

Biomassekraftwerk

Das britische Energieministerium hat im November 2007 beschlossen, für 558 Millionen Euro das weltweit größte Biomasse-Kraftwerk (offizielle Bezeichnung: Renewable Energy Plant) in Port Talbot zu errichten. Die durch das Unternehmen Prenergy Power Ltd. bis 2010 fertiggestellte Anlage soll 350 Megawatt elektrische Leistung für die Region Wales erzeugen. Das Kraftwerk soll mit Holzspänen betrieben werden, die aus nachhaltiger Holzproduktion in den USA und Kanada stammen.
