Postposition

Als Postpositionen bezeichnet man Wörter, die im Gegensatz zu den Präpositionen hinter dem Wort stehen, auf das sie sich beziehen. Im Deutschen vergeben sie so den Kasus für das Nomen:

  • einem Bericht zufolge (+ Dativ)
  • der Einfachheit halber (+ Genitiv)
  • meiner Meinung nach (+ Dativ)
  • den Fluss entlang (+ Akkusativ)
  • des Geldes wegen (+ Genitiv)

Einige Postpositionen ändern ihren Kasus, wenn sie als Präposition vor dem Bezugswort stehen:

  • zufolge eines Berichts (+ Genitiv)
  • entlang dem Fluss (+ Dativ, seltener auch + Genitiv)

Postpositionen werden als Bestandteil postpositionaler Gefüge häufig als alternative Form zum Ausdruck der indirekten Rede (Konjunktiv) verwendet:

  • Einer Meldung des „Focus“ zufolge ist die Kinderarmut in Deutschland sprunghaft angestiegen.

Einige Postpositionen können auch als Präposition gebraucht werden.

Auch in anderen Sprachen existieren Postpositionen, so etwa:

  • im Lateinischen, z.B.: honoris causa („der Ehre wegen, ehrenhalber“).

In einigen Sprachen werden Ausdrücke, die im Deutschen Präpositionen sind, standardmäßig als Postpositionen realisiert. Beispiele:

  • Hindi:
    • मेज़ पर mez par „auf dem Tisch“: मेज़ mez „Tisch“, पर par „auf“
    • भाई के लिए „für den Bruder“: भाई „Bruder“, के लिए „für“
  • Japanisch:
    • そのあとで (sono ato de): „dessen nach“, nachdem
    • そこから (soko kara): „dort von“, von dort
  • Ungarisch:
    • az asztal alatt = wörtlich „der Tisch unter“ = unter dem Tisch
    • a ház előtt = wörtlich „das Haus vor“ = vor dem Haus

In den ostseefinnischen Sprachen gibt es neben vielen Postpositionen auch einige Präpositionen. Im Finnischen stehen die meisten Postpositionen mit dem Genitiv, nur einige erfordern den Partitiv.

  • minun kanssa "mit mir" (mit Genitiv),
  • ikkunan vieressä "neben dem Fenster" (mit Genitiv),
  • sinua varten "für dich" (mit Partitiv)
