Überblick
Die Geschichte der Universität reicht zurück bis ins Jahr 1849, als erstmals Techniker und Lehrer in Queensland ausgebildet wurden und die Brisbane School of Arts gegründet wurde. 1965 wurde das Queensland Institute of Technology (QIT) gegründet, um der wachsenden Nachfrage der Industrie nachzukommen. 1989 wurde das QIT zur Queensland University of Technology (QUT), da es nicht nur über hervorragende Lehrveranstaltungen, sondern auch über Forschungs- und Entwicklungseinrichtungen verfügte.
Im Mai 1990 wurde die QUT mit dem Brisbane College of Advanced Education (BCAE), das in Wirtschaft, Geisteswissenschaften und Pädagogik spezialisiert war, zusammengeschlossen, behielt jedoch den Namen QUT. Heutzutage studieren ca. 40.000 Studenten an der QUT, viele davon internationale Austauschstudenten.
Besonders in den Bereichen Science, Information Technology und Business (AACSB, AMBA und EQUIS-Akkreditierung) hat sich die QUT einen Namen gemacht. Im Bereich Business Information Systems (Wirtschaftsinformatik) gilt sie als eine der besten Universitäten Australiens. Sie ist assoziiertes Mitglied im European Research Center for Information Systems.
