Rachel Claire Ward (* 12. September 1957 in Cornwell Manor, Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire) ist eine britisch-australische Filmschauspielerin, Regisseurin und Drehbuchautorin.

Leben und Karriere

Rachel Ward ist aristokratischer Herkunft und besuchte in ihrer Kindheit ausgewählte Privatschulen. In Paris belegte sie ein Kunststudium und begann schließlich als Model zu arbeiten. 1976 zog Rachel Ward in die USA und wurde 1983 zu einer der schönsten Frauen der Welt gekürt. 1981 erhielt sie neben Burt Reynolds ihren ersten großen Auftritt als Schauspielerin in Sharky und seine Profis.

International bekannt wurde Rachel Ward durch den Fernsehmehrteiler „Die Dornenvögel“. Während der Dreharbeiten 1982 lernte sie Bryan Brown kennen und heiratete ihn im folgenden Jahr. Neben „Die Dornenvögel“ standen die beiden noch in „Der Versuchung verfallen“ vor der Kamera. Die beiden sind Eltern von drei Kindern. Ende der 1970er Jahre war sie mit David A. Kennedy liiert.

Während sie in ihrer Wahlheimat Australien stets ein Star blieb, behielt man sie in Hollywood und in Europa nur durch ihre beiden Rollen der „femme fatale“ in dem Remake „Gegen jede Chance“ und in der Komödie „Tote tragen keine Karos“ an der Seite von Steve Martin in Erinnerung. Für ihre Rolle in dem Spielfilm Sharky und seine Profis (1981) erhielt sie eine Nominierung für den Golden Globe Award als Beste Nachwuchsdarstellerin. 2002 spielte sie in dem TV-Film „Bobbie's Girl“ mit Bernadette Peters und Thomas Sangster mit.

Rachel Ward arbeitet seit 2000 auch als Regisseurin und Drehbuchautorin. In der australischen Presse wurden ihre Regiearbeiten als vielversprechend bezeichnet.
