Recto (lat. rectus „aufrecht, gerade, richtig“) bezeichnet die Vorderseite eines Blattes Papier, Papyrus, Pergament oder auch einer Banknote. Ursprünglich bezeichnete man damit in der Papyrologie die meist allein beschriebene Innenseite der Papyrusrolle, auf der die einzelnen Papyrusstreifen parallel zu den Schriftzeilen und der Rollenlänge stehen. Abkürzung bei der Paginierung durch ein hochgestelltes „r“, z. B. 76r.

Das Gegenteil ist Verso.
