Der Kontokorrentkredit (ital.: conto = Rechnung, corrente = laufend; engl. Revolving credit facility / RCF) ist ein revolvierendes Bankdarlehen, also ein Kredit, der während eines festgelegten Zeitraumes zurückgezahlt und wieder beansprucht werden kann[1]. Der Kontokorrentkredit wird Unternehmen von ihrer Bank als Geldbetrag zur Verfü­gung ge­stellt, wenn das Girokonto in die negativen Zahlen kommt. Er kann je nach Be­darf bis zur Höchst­grenze aus­ge­nutzt wer­den. Nur für die wirklich in Anspruch genommenen Beträge müssen Zinsen gezahlt werden. Zah­lungs­eingänge auf dem Konto re­du­zieren wieder auto­matisch die Ver­bind­lich­keiten.

Hintergründe

Der Kontokorrentkredit ähnelt dem Überziehungskredit bei einer Bank bei Privatpersonen. Im Rahmen eines Dispositionskredits kann eine Privatperson das eigene Konto überziehen. Regelungen zum Kontokorrentkredit findet man u. a. im § 355-357 Handelsgesetzbuch (HGB).

Unter Kontokorrentkredit versteht man eine laufende Rechnung zwischen zwei Vertragspartnern, i. d. R. zwischen einer Bank und einem Bankkunden. Aber auch Unternehmen können untereinander Kontokorrente führen. Das Wesen des Kontokorrents besteht darin, dass sich beide Vertragspartner ihre gegenseitigen Forderungen stunden und in regelmäßigen Abständen gegeneinander aufrechnen. Schuldner ist jeweils die Partei, zu deren Ungunsten der Saldo des Kontokorrentkredits steht. Der Saldo wird auf neue Rechnung vorgetragen. In ihm gehen die verschiedenen Forderungen unter, d. h. dass nur der Saldo eingeklagt werden kann.

Beim Kontokorrentkredit einer Bank wird ein bestimmtes Kreditlimit mit dem Bankkunden vereinbart. Bis zu dieser Höhe kann das Unternehmenskonto belastet werden. Den Zeitpunkt und die Geldmenge kann der Kunde frei bestimmen. Die Höhe des Kreditlimits orientiert sich dabei an der individuellen Situation und den konkreten Anforderungen eines Unternehmens.

Der Zinssatz für den Kontokorrentkredit ist variabel und richtet sich nach den aktuellen Marktzinsen. Zinsen werden nur für den Betrag fällig, der auch tatsächlich genutzt wurde. Der Kontokorrentkredit ist also variabel einsetzbar und kann genauso variabel zurückgezahlt werden.

Der Kontokorrentkredit eignet sich vor allem für kurzfristige Kredite wie Betriebsmittelkredite, Zwischenkredite oder Saisonkredite. Vorteilhaft beim Kontokorrentkredit ist die Ausnutzung von Skontovorteilen, flexible Inanspruchnahme und die fehlende Zweckbindung.
