Robert Lloyd

Robert Andrew Lloyd (* 2. Mai 1940 in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England) ist ein britischer Bassist.

Er studierte in London bei dem bedeutenden Bariton Otakar Kraus und debütierte 1969 in der britischen Hauptstadt als Don Fernando in Leonore, der Urfassung von „Fidelio“. 1969-1972 sang er am Sadler's Wells Theater, seit 1972 in Covent Garden und als Gast in der ganzen Welt. Er singt sowohl das englische Repertoire (Claggart aus Benjamin Brittens Oper Billy Budd, den Priester und Todesengel aus Edward Elgars Oratorium „The Dream of Gerontius“) als auch deutsche (Sarastro - Die Zauberflöte, Gurnemanz - Parsifal), italienische (Bartolo - Der Barbier von Sevilla), französische (Arkel - Pelléas et Mélisande) und russische Partien (Boris Godunow). Robert Lloyd gilt als wichtigster britischer Bassist seit Raimund Herinckx.
