Shelton Hank Williams III (* 12. Dezember 1972 in Nashville, Tennessee) ist der Enkel von Hank Williams und der Sohn von Hank Williams Jr.. In jungen Jahren spielte er Schlagzeug in einigen Punk Rock-Bands; 1996 erhielt er einen Plattenvertrag bei Curb Records. Kurze Zeit später wurde das Album Three Hanks: Men With Broken Hearts veröffentlicht, auf dem die Stimmen der drei Williams-Generationen vereint waren.
Williams bevorzugte jedoch nie Mainstream-Country, obwohl die Ähnlichkeit mit seinem Großvater ihm eine Karriere in diesem Metier gesichert hätte. Doch er war gelangweilt vom vorhersehbaren Nashville-Sound und dem dortigen Umgang. Seine Meinung zu diesem Thema findet sich im Song "Trashville".
Sein erstes Soloalbum, Risin' Outlaw wurde im September 1999 veröffentlicht. Lovesick, Broke & Driftin folgte 2002. Er hatte große Probleme mit Curb Records, da diese sich weigerten, das Album This Ain't Country zu veröffentlichen und ihn aufgrund ihres Vertrags auch daran hinderten, es anderweitig anzubieten. Williams ging dazu über, T-Shirts mit der Aufschrift "F*** Curb" zu verkaufen.
Williams spielt Alternative Country und betreibt nebenbei noch die stark Death-Metal-angelehnte Band Assjack. Außerdem ist er Bassist der Band Superjoint Ritual des ehemaligen Pantera-Frontmanns Phil Anselmo.
Es gibt eine Reihe Bezeichnungen, die seinen Sound beschreiben sollen, u. a.: Hard-Twang, Punkabilly, Cowpunk, Alternacountry, Slacker Swing, Hellbilly und Honky Punk.
Im Oktober 2008 veröffentlichte Williams sein neuestes Album Damn Right, Rebel Proud bei Sidewalk Records.
