Sicut Judaeis

Die Päpstliche Bulle Sicut Judaeis non (lat.: Zum Schutz der Juden) von 1146 wurde von Papst Eugen III. veröffentlicht. Diese Bulle trägt den Beinamen „Schutzbulle für die Juden“, hieraus entwickelte sich später die „Constitutio pro Judaeis“. Mit dieser Bulle hatte sich der Papst große Verdienste zum Schutz der Juden erworben.

Dieser Wortlaut, so erinnerte Eugen III., wurde zuerst von Papst Gregor I. (der Große) benutzt und taucht in einem Brief an den Bischof von Neapel auf.[1] Papst Calixt II. schrieb 1123 in der Dekretale „Sicut Judaea“, dass sich die römischen Christen dringend dem Schutz der Juden zuwenden sollten. Papst Eugen III. wiederholte die darin erwähnte Aussage, dass Juden berechtigt seien, ihre rechtmäßige Freiheit zu genießen. Mit der Bulle zum Schutz der Juden wurde die Nötigung zum Übertritt in das Christentum verboten. Es wurde weiterhin untersagt, die Juden in ihrem Glauben zu verletzen, ihre Feiern und Feste zu stören oder sich in die Begräbnisrituale einzumischen.
