Spatial

Spatial (von lat. spatium „Raum“) bezeichnet im Kontext eines Dateimanagers eine Ansicht zur Datei-Verwaltung (Dateimanager), bei der ein Ordner immer durch ein Fenster repräsentiert wird, dessen Größe und Platzierung auf dem Bildschirm vom Dateimanager gespeichert wird. Diese Ansicht wird vom Finder in Mac OS verwendet, kann aber auch beim Windows-Explorer und beim Konqueror eingestellt werden, obwohl diese in der Standardkonfiguration ein Fenster wiederverwenden.

Spatial wird auch im Rahmen von Geographischen Informationssystemen Geoinformationssystem für die Beschreibung räumlicher (geographischer) Beziehungen verwendet.

Das Open-Source-Projekt PostgreSQL liefert mit der Erweiterung PostGIS ein Datenbanksystem, das Geometriedaten verwalten kann und mit vielfältigen Geometriefunktionen ausgestattet ist. Über z. B. ODBC ist eine Anbindung der Datenbank als Backend an Windows-, Mac- und Linuxprogramme möglich. QuantumGIS (Open Source) arbeitet z. B. direkt mit PostgreSQL zusammen.

Die Firma Oracle bietet mit Oracle Spatial eine Datenbankvariante an, in der Geometrien gespeichert und verwaltet werden können. Auch in der Version 2008 von Microsoft SQL Server können Spatialdatentypen verwaltet werden.

Die Firma ESRI bietet mit Spatial Analyst ein Produkt zum Rasterdatenmanagement.

Auch in der Akustik bzw. Audiowiedergabe wird der Begriff "spatial" verwendet, um eine Raumklang-Simulation zu beschreiben.
