Stagnation

Stagnation (von lat. stagnatio „Flüssigkeitsstau (im Körper)“, das im 18. Jahrhundert von der ursprünglich medizinischen Bedeutung auf jegliche Form des Stillstands übertragen wurde) bedeutet im allgemeinen Sprachgebrauch, dass eine bestimmte Variable kein Wachstum erfährt. Der Begriff wird vor allem in Volkswirtschaftslehre, Sportwissenschaften, Medizin, Psychologie, Biologie, Physik und der Geisteswissenschaft verwendet.

Volkswirtschaftliche Stagnation

In der Wirtschaft ist Stagnation eine Bezeichnung für eine konjunkturelle Phase, in der die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung stillsteht. Messgröße hierfür ist in der Regel das Bruttonationaleinkommen, allerdings wird auch bei anderen (v. a. makroökonomischen) Größen von Stagnation gesprochen, falls diese kein Wachstum erfahren, so z. B. der Inlandskonsum, die gesamtwirtschaftliche Nachfrage oder die Investitionsnachfrage.[1][2]

Bei einer nicht konjunkturell bedingten Stagnation makroökonomischer Variablen spricht man auch von einer Stagnationskrise.

Tritt Stagnation zusammen mit Inflation auf, spricht man auch von Stagflation.
