Im Laufe der Popgeschichte wurden verschiedene Personen als „fünfter Beatle“ bezeichnet, so zum Beispiel

  • Neil Aspinall war ein Schulfreund von Paul McCartney und George Harrison, der für die Beatles Assistentenaufgaben übernahm und als Musiker auf verschiedenen Aufnahmen der Beatles zu hören ist.[1]
  • Billy Preston spielte Hammond-Orgel unter anderem beim letzten Auftritt der Beatles auf dem Dach des Apple-Hauses.[2]
  • Pete Best war vor Ringo Starr Schlagzeuger der Beatles.
  • George Martin war Produzent der Beatles, arbeitete auch im kreativen Bereich mit ihnen stark zusammen und spielt auf einigen Aufnahmen Klavier.[3]
  • Yoko Ono war die zweite Frau von John Lennon. Ihr wurden (meist ungute) Einflüsse auf die Beatles nachgesagt.[4]
  • Klaus Voormann gestaltete das Cover der LP Revolver und ist auf Soloalben von John Lennon, George Harrison und Ringo Starr als Bassist zu hören.[5]
  • Stuart Sutcliffe war ebenfalls Bassist und ein alter Freund von John Lennon. Seine Geschichte wird unter anderem in dem Film Backbeat erzählt.[6]
  • Brian Epstein war von 1961 bis 1967 Manager der Beatles und wichtige Triebfeder für den internationalen Erfolg der Gruppe.
  • George Best [7] war zeitgleich als Fußballer erfolgreich und wurde wegen seiner Popularität, seines Lebensstils und seiner langen Haare von den Medien als Fünfter Beatle bezeichnet.
  • Jimmy Nicol [8] vertrat den erkrankten Ringo Starr 1964 bei insgesamt 17 Konzerten als Drummer.

Trivia

In der Simpsons-Episode Lisa als Vegetarierin (3F03), behauptet Apu, man nannte ihn den fünften Beatle. Die Figur Paul McCartneys bestätigt dies.
