Theodore Hesburgh

Theodore Martin Hesburgh, CSC, (* 25. Mai 1917 in Syracuse, New York) ist ein römisch-katholischer Priester und Universitätsprofessor. Er war von 1952 bis 1987 Präsident der University of Notre Dame in Indiana.

Hesburgh war von 1957 bis 1972 Mitglied der United States Civil Rights Commission, ab 1969 deren Vorsitzender. Hesburgh war ferner eine bedeutende Figur der römisch-katholischen Kirche der Vereinigten Staaten von den 1950er- bis zu den 1990er-Jahren. Er wurde 1964 mit der Presidential Medal of Freedom und 1999 mit der Congressional Gold Medal ausgezeichnet.

Hesburgh wurden 150 Ehrendoktorwürden verliehen. Er ist seit 1961 Ehrenmitglied der K.Ö.H.V. Alpenland] (Wien) im ÖCV.
