Thinner ist ein Netlabel, das sich vor allem auf Dub-Techno und weitere bis auf wenige Ausnahmen sanfte Spielarten der elektronischen Musik konzentriert. Es ist eines der bekanntesten Netlabels im Bereich der elektronischen Musik.

Geschichte

Das Thinner Netlabel wurde 1998 von dem Schweden Thomas Jaldemark gegründet und wird heute von den Sebastian Redenz, Ole Schulte und einem internationalen Team betrieben. Mit Sitz in Frankfurt am Main ist Thinner eines der beständigsten und erfolgreichsten Netlabels der letzten Jahre. Der Thinner-Katalog beinhaltet Releases von Künstlern wie Digitalverein, Marko Fürstenberg, Benfay, Pheek, Veer, Krill.Minima, Christian Bloch, Vladislav Delay, Danny Kreutzfeldt, Digitalis und Eloi Brunelle. Bis September 2006 zählte das Netlabel über zwei Millionen MP3 Downloads. Seit Dezember 2008 werden neue Veröffentlichungen als kostenpflichtige Downloads angeboten. Zusätzlich sind aber weiterhin kostenfreie Angebote geplant.

Sublabel und Partnerschaften

Autoplate war ein Sublabel Thinners und konzentrierte sich auf experimentelle Electronica und Ambient. Das autoplate-Label wurde 2008 eingestellt. Thinner und Epsilonlab, das sich vor allem auf House konzentriert, von Eloi Brunelle geleitet wird und hauptsächlich in Montreal aktiv ist, haben seit einigen Jahren eine Labelpartnerschaft. Die beiden Labels unterstützen sich gegenseitig, tauschen sich aus und organisieren gemeinsame Partys. So veröffentlichte man 2006 eine gemeinsame DVD mit dem Namen Epsilonlab vs Thinner: Silence is Presence und veröffentlichte auf Thinner ein Release das sich auf das Audiomaterial beschränkt.
