Der United States Postal Service (USPS) ist eine Unabhängige Behörde der Vereinigten Staaten. Er nimmt die Aufgaben eines staatlichen Konzerns wahr, welcher Postdienstleistungen anbietet und auf bestimmte Postdienstleistungen ein Monopol besitzt. Der Hauptsitz befindet sich in Washington D. C..

Der USPS wurde 1775 aufgrund eines Dekretes des zweiten Kontinentalkongresses durch Benjamin Franklin gegründet. Von 1792 bis 1971 hatte ihr Leiter, der United States Postmaster General, Ministerrrang inne, war also Mitglied der Bundesregierung. Es beschäftigt heute 700.000 Arbeitnehmer.

Der USPS unterhält gemeinsam mit dem Verteidigungsministerium das Army Post Office (Heer und Luftwaffe) sowie das Fleet Post Office (Marine, Marineinfanterie und Küstenwache).

Der USPS unterhält eine eigene Polizei, den United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS).

Jedes Postamt schreibt die jeweilige Postleitzahl über oder neben den Haupteingang. Gewöhnliche USPS-Fahrzeuge führen keine Kfz-Kennzeichen, sofern sie im Inland eingesetzt sind.
