Ustad

Ustad (arabisch ‏ استاد ‎, DMG ustād) ist ein arabischer und persischer Ehrentitel für muslimische Männer in Afghanistan, Iran, Tadschikistan, Pakistan und in Indien (Devangari: उस्ताद / ustād; Bengalisch: ওস্তাদ / ostād). Mit dem informellen Titel werden meist angesehene Musiker geehrt, vergleichbar einem Maestro, des Weiteren sonstige Künstler, Lehrer oder Handwerker. Der türkische Meister heißt Üstat.

Hinduistische Meister indischer Musik werden nicht mit Ustad, sondern mit Pandit tituliert.
