Valeant Pharmaceuticals International ist ein pharmazeutisches Unternehmen mit Sitz in Aliso Viejo in Kalifornien. Es erforscht, entwickelt und produziert Pharmazeutika und vermarktet neue Arzneimittel in den Indikationsbereichen Dermatologie Neurologie, insbesondere im Bereich Morbus Parkinson mit dem COMT-Hemmer Tolcapon sowie Infektionskrankheiten. Das Unternehmen wurde 1960 gegründet und erzielt heute mit 3.000 Mitarbeitern einen weltweiten Umsatz von 872 Mio. Euro.

Die deutsche Tochtergesellschaft des weltweit tätigen forschenden Arzneimittelunternehmens ist die Valeant Pharmaceuticals Deutschland GmbH mit Sitz in Eschborn im Main-Taunus-Kreis in Hessen. Das Unternehmen beschäftigt 120 Mitarbeiter. Geschäftsführer ist Dr. Christian Wirth. Von Eschborn aus betreut Valeant auch den Geschäftsbereich in der Schweiz und Österreich. Die Vertriebsaktivitäten in Osteuropa werden ebenfalls von Eschborn aus koordiniert und gesteuert.

Der Mutterkonzern wurde 2008 an die schwedische Aktiengesellschaft Meda Pharma verkauft [1].
