Arthur David Waley, eigentl. Arthur David Schloss, (* 19. August 1889 in Tunbridge Wells, England; † 27. Juni 1966 in London) war ein britischer Sinologe.

Arthur Waley war der Sohn des Wirtschaftswissenschaftlers David Frederick Schloss. Mit 25 Jahren nahm Waley 1914 den Geburtsnamen seiner Mutter an.

Er studierte von 1907 bis 1910 am King's College in Cambridge klassische Literatur und Kunst. Danach wurde er Mitarbeiter im Britischen Museum und hatte hauptsächlich mit orientalischen Manuskripten zu tun.

In dieser Zeit lernte er als Autodidakt Chinesisch und Japanisch. 1929 verließ er die Arbeitsstätte, um sich nun ausschließlich seinen literarischen Interessen zu widmen. Er übersetzte die Analekten des Konfuzius und den populären Roman Xiyouji (Die Reise nach dem Westen), der von dem Mönch Xuanzang und dem Affenkönig Sun Wukong handelt.

Im Alter von 77 Jahren starb Arthur Waley am 27. Juni 1966. Er hatte China niemals besucht.
