Unter Washing versteht man im Modellbaubereich das Bearbeiten eines bereits fertig bemalten Modells mittels Farbe und einer großen Menge entsprechender Verdünnung mit dem Ziel, starke Gebrauchsspuren zu erzeugen und/oder dem Modell mehr „Tiefe“ einzuhauchen.

Vorgehensweise

Wichtig dabei ist, dass man den Basislack vor dem Washing mindestens 24 Stunden lang durchtrocknen lassen sollte, um ein Auflösen durch das Verdünnungsmedium zu vermeiden. Alternativ kann man auch zu unterschiedlichen Farbtypen greifen, beispielsweise Ölfarben für den Basislack und wasserbasierender Farbe für das Washing. Im Falle wasserbasierter Washings sollten allerdings Detergention (Spülmittel) zur Reduktion der Oberflächenspannung des Lösungsmittels Wasser hinzugegeben werden, dies unterstützt die Kapillarwirkung und lässt das Farb/Wassergemisch auch in feinste Ritzen des Modells laufen wo es sich als beabsichtigter „Schmutz“ absetzen kann.
